Women’s part of the 2006 world championships in Guangzhou (China) finished with absolute and indisputable victory of Japanese wrestlers. They won gold medals in five out of seven weight categories. A Chinese wrestler won gold in the category 67kg/147.5 lbs while Bulgarian Stanka Zlateva won gold in the heavyweight (72kg/158.5 lbs).

As in the 2005 championship in Budapest, Russian female wrestlers took two third and two fifth positions. Young Alena Adashinskaya (51kg./112.25 lbs) and 24-year-old Elena Perepelkina (72kg/158.5 lbs) got bronze. Perepelkina got the second world bronze in a row. However, before, in the European championship in Moscow and in Budapest she competed in the 67kg/147.5 lbs category but after she had defeated Olympic vice-champion Guzel Manyurova, she captured the heavyweight as well.

Maria Egorova from Belarus got silver (55kg/121 lbs) and Natalia Sinitsina – brtonze (59kg/130 lbs).
