‘Victory’. For real fighters there is some glory, some necessity, some satisfaction in fighting which they enjoy.

‘Amazons In Action’, or ‘Women’s Bare Knuckle Brawl – Outdoor Pugilism’. These fights were long and bloody and many of the blows were aimed at the upper torso. Given the scarcity of medication and the fact that any upper garment they would normally wear would be somewhat dirty, a skin-breaking blow with such a garment on could cause a life-threatening infection. So the “healthy” alternative was topless boxing!

‘The vulnerable boxer’s body’. Well said by Drew Hammond: “This image represents female boxing at its most elemental level. Made visual is the essence of what combative women are all about – to attack their opponent’s womanhood which can take two directions. The first is the obvious: punching of the breasts, the visual symbol of femaleness. Both of them are hanging there, fully exposed to attack. There is another aim of damaging attack to the very core of the woman’s sexual essence residing within the fighter’s pooch is the center of a woman’s sexuality. The physical reason for her existence. Her very being. In that womb is life created, and the desires for such creations run deep. Pound away at that belly pooch and eventually you will smash the uterus into convulsive spasms of pain…” This image artistically illustrates obvious vulnerability of a female body, especially in contact sports.
